West Ham United have confirmed the appointment of former Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo as head coach, following the dismissal of Graham Potter earlier today.
The Portuguese coach was sacked by Forest earlier this month after a clash with owner Evangelos Marinakis, despite guiding the club to a seventh-place finish last season, their best in three decades.
His swift return to management now sees him tasked with rescuing a West Ham side sitting 19th in the table.
“I am very pleased to be here and very proud to be representing West Ham United,” Nuno said after his appointment.
“My objective is to work hard to get the very best from the team and ensure that we are as competitive as we possibly can be. The work has already started, and I am looking forward to the challenge that is ahead.”
Nuno took his first training session at Rush Green on Saturday afternoon and will be supported initially by academy coaches Mark Robson, Steve Potts, Gerard Prenderville and Billy Lepine.
The club confirmed that further announcements regarding his backroom staff will follow.
West Ham hope Nuno can replicate the success he enjoyed at Forest, where he lifted the club from a relegation fight to European qualification.
The challenge at the London Stadium is immediate, with the Hammers desperate to climb out of the relegation zone.
