Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has filed a N1.5 billion lawsuit against activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju for allegedly making defamatory statements against him
Obi approached an Anambra State High Court in Onitsha, accusing Adeyanju of using his social media platforms to make scandalous, reckless, and malicious remarks.
In the suit, he is seeking N1 billion in general damages and an additional N500 million in exemplary damages.
The former presidential candidate is also demanding that Adeyanju issue a public, unreserved apology for the statements.
Reacting to the lawsuit, Adeyanju said he was relieved that Obi followed through with the legal action.
“Finally, Peter Obi has sued me. I am actually happy and relieved that he didn’t chicken out in the end. Interestingly, he dragged me all the way to Anambra State, even though he is almost always in Abuja where I reside. But no shaking, we move,” he told Daily Post.
