Professor Kingsley Moghalu assumed leadership of the African School of Governance (ASG) on October 1, 2024, following a global search for a visionary leader for the newly established institution.
ASG, co-founded by Rwandan President Paul Kagame and former Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, aims to address Africa's governance challenges by providing top-tier education in public policy and governance, supported by the Mastercard Foundation. It seeks to equip emerging African leaders with essential skills for effective leadership across the continent.
Professor Moghalu, a global expert in public policy with 17 years of senior roles at the United Nations and academic contributions at Harvard and Oxford, brings extensive experience to ASG. His appointment marks a significant step towards ASG's mission of transforming governance in Africa.
Under the leadership of Makhtar Diop, Managing Director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the ASG Governing Board praised Moghalu's leadership qualities and expertise in governance and public policy. Diop expressed confidence in Moghalu's ability to guide ASG in shaping Africa's future leadership.
ASG will offer a range of academic, research, and policy programs, including the Master of Public Administration (MPA), Executive MPA, and short Executive Courses. It aims to fill governance and leadership gaps in Africa through initiatives like the Young Leaders Programme (YLP) and Senior Leadership Fellowship (SLF). ASG will also establish four research centers focused on African governance, history, trade, and technology.
