Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced major investments in agriculture to make it a key part of the state’s economy.
Speaking at the 2024 World Food Day event, he unveiled plans to rebrand the Ministry of Agriculture as the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems to enhance food safety, reduce prices, and modernize farming.
Key initiatives include the Lagos Central Food Security Hub, the Lagos Rice Mill, and the Eko Agro Mechanization Programme, which have created jobs and reduced reliance on imports.
The state is also focusing on boosting local cattle and fish production through projects like the Cattle Feedlot and the Lagos Aquaculture Centre of Excellence.
Additionally, Sanwo-Olu emphasized partnerships with the private sector and World Bank projects to improve infrastructure and support local farmers.
The state’s agricultural programs aim to increase food security, reduce post-harvest losses, and promote local production.
