6.1 Magnitude Earthquake shakes parts of Turkey, Syria

A 6.1 magnitude earthquake hit parts of Turkey and Syria on Wednesday morning, particularly affecting Malatya, Diyarbakir, Elazig, and surrounding regions. 

Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) reported no immediate casualties but confirmed that several buildings were damaged, with people leaving homes in panic. Four individuals were rescued from a damaged building in Elazig, and rockfalls were reported in Malatya. 

AFAD and Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya assured the public that emergency services were on high alert. 

The quake, at a depth of 5.6 miles, was also felt in Syria's Hasakah, Deir Al Zor, and Aleppo provinces. A green alert for fatalities and a yellow alert for economic losses were issued, suggesting minimal casualties but localized damage. This earthquake follows a devastating 7.8 magnitude quake last year, which killed over 55,000 people in Turkey and Syria.
